Jared Finkelstein and Kathleen Macferran are authors, facilitators, educators, and Certified Trainers for the Center for Nonviolent Communication. They have spent much of their lives bringing harmony to communities through education ranging from early childhood through college, and through the arts, Kathleen as a classical music conductor and Jared in filmmaking and theater art.
Central to their work is a vision for a peaceful, just, and sustainable world. Jared and Kathleen have over four decades of combined experience in presenting and facilitating both domestically and internationally. They create welcoming multi-cultural spaces where people explore and honor differing perspectives using practical skills that lead to reconciliation with one’s self, one’s loved ones, and one’s communities. They have worked with schools, families, community groups, businesses, faith-based communities, hospitals, prison inmates and law enforcement employees.
Their collaboration “Choice: A Field Guide for Navigating the Polarization of Our World and Living Interdependently” is a personal book meant to invite self-discovery. Kathleen and Jared offer workshops, readings and seminars to support exploration of the material in ways that deepen understanding, compassion and mutually beneficial action.
In addition to co-authoring Choice: A Field Guide for Navigating the Polarization of Our World and Living Interdependently with Kathleen, Jared is devoted to the idea of intergenerational interdependence. He provides ongoing facilitated training at no cost through a project called Heartful Families, and is a Program Leader for trainings offered through One Big Circle’s projects. Jared lives in Berkeley, California. He likes to daydream about ways of popularizing complex ideas into simple packages for general consumption, and play role-playing games with his friends. His website is www.qualityofconnection.com
In addition to co-authoring Choice: A Field Guide for Navigating the Polarization of Our World and Living Interdependently with Jared, Kathleen is the author of the children’s books How Giraffes Found Their Hearts, and How Giraffes Got Their Ears, and conductor for Giraffe Tales, a children’s CD setting those stories to music. Kathleen is the conductor on multiple Rainier Chamber Winds classical music recordings. Her website is www.StrengthofConnection.com where her TEDx talks, books, workshops and music can be found.
